WARNING: THIS POST HAS LOTS OF PICS HERE AND AT THE END AND MAY TAKE SOMETIME TO LOAD. IF YOU WANT A GOOD LAUGH AT MY EXPENSE IT IS WORTH THE WAIT TO READ HOW I FELT ABOUT THE PROCESS ;)
So, forever I have been BEGGING my husband to allow me to paint the kitchen cabinets. He is oldschool and firmly believes paint does not belong on wood, no way no how. He would rather see nastiness then give in to his way of thinking.
I had watched videos and blogs about the Rustoleum kit. Some of it I would agree with after doing it some of it not. I will give you some candid thoughts in a bit. So we were in Lowes and my husband was in a good mood and said to just buy the kit. Now, I am NOT a stupid woman. I immediately put the kit in my cart, had it tinted, and checked out. No turning back now. He was headed out of town on business a couple weeks later and I knew I would be working on my cabinets then.
To tell you how many hours I put into this project would only depress you. They make it sound like it is a weekend project. Yeah, right- maybe if you are super talented in the area of home improvement and have some miracle trick to make paint dry a hell of a lot faster. I was at this for a couple of weeks. Granted I work a day job, a part part (yes the part is twice because I don't work THAT much) time job, raise 2 kids and husband, and have other volunteer commitments.
I tried laying a drop cloth out on the floor to do this. Then lay all the cabinets down there. I really didn't have a place in the winter where I could put them up. Yeah, don't do it on the floor. My butt is large, my legs are chunky, and the last time I did squats to exercise I cried for a week. So, doing this up down thing off the floor was a NIGHTMARE. No seriously, I had nightmares. Did I mention that I could hardly walk at work for a week? Then an important thing to remember paint drips and pools so you even get to do some steps twice. How fun is that?! yep, you guessed it- not fun at all. By the end I saw a nervous breakdown in my future. Good thing I drink wine!
Was it worth it? You tell me...
